Major General Sudhakar Jee is a former colonel of the Mahar Regiment with over 37 years of service in diverse conflict zones in India and overseas. An alumnus of Sainik School Bhubaneswar, NDA, IMA, DSSC, CDM, and NDC, his civil qualifications include BA(JNU), MA, MSc, PG Dipl, MMS, and M Phil. He is currently pursuing a PhD on the India-China border.
His services as a Military Observer in the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (West Africa) in Disarming, Demobilising and Rehabilitating the rebels and registration of the Children Armed with Fighting Forces in 1998-99 in a volatile and hostile environment were lauded and recognised at the global level. During OP VIJAY, in Siachen Glacier, his company successfully repelled enemy advances at an altitude exceeding 19,000’ in temperatures plummeting to as low as -53 °C. He has commanded troops in all three sectors of India’s northern border, in addition to serving in counterinsurgency/Counter Terrorist operations in all theatres of India in both command and staff.
He played key roles in several critical missions: 2001 Mobilisation of the Indian Army post terrorist attack on Parliament; OP PARAKRAM; evacuation of Indians from Iraq(2014); supply of water to the Maldives(2014); and evacuation of Indians from Yemen(2015). He has been conferred with the Vishisht Seva Medal by the President of India, two Chiefs of the Army Staff Commendation Cards, two GOC-in-C Commendation Cards, one Gold Medal by the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, one Commendation Card by the Governor of J&K for the smooth conduct of the Amarnath Yatra. The General Officer is also a recipient of the Mirza Raja Jai Singh I Award conferred by the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum Trust, City Palace, Jaipur in 2023. He has been the President and CEO of a multinational company overseas in Oman.
Recognised for his expertise in the Indo-Pacific Region and Maritime Security by the Department of State, US Consulate General Kolkata, the General Officer is a well-known and reputed India-China expert, an author, a columnist, who comments on geopolitics, strategy and security in national and international mainstream digital, print and electronic media.
He is a regular invitee for the “ Military Literature Festival, Chandigarh” and Jaipur Dialogues. A Distinguished Fellow in CLAWS, STRIVE, Usanas Foundation, Udaipur and India Chapter of Indus International Research Foundation(IIRF), an Expert Advisor to CUTS International in Global Affairs and Strategy, Advisor to Foreign Policy Research School, Jaipur(BHARAT) and IIRF, India & USA Chapters. The General is also in Track 2 Dialogues with India’s Strategic Neighbourhood.
